MESSAGE
FROM THE CHAIR:
"On another subject, just to let you know I called Sen. Whitmire and told him I supported his decision to return to Texas. I think it is the right thing to do to fight it on the Senate Floor. Perry, et al. are determined on this and we need to fight it where we get press. I went out and testified against the House Plan to the Senate Committee. I believe the "Democrat Party tent" has got to be large enough to accommodate folks like Sen. Whitmire. We are already a minority party, in terms of elected officials, minority in the Sen. and House and need to keep and gain as much as we can. I don't think Sen. Whitmire was "selling out" and it bothered me greatly that my friends in New Mexico, all of whom I personally know and have for many years were so harsh with Whitmire. That kind of divisiveness can not help our cause. No doubt the Rs are laughing at all of that. They don't need to fight the Ds, they kill off their own. "You get my point. I believe Senator Lyndon Johnson was a "Master of the Senate" because he was a leader of the diverse elements, liberal, conservative, urban, rural, North, South in the U.S. Senate. When
I posted the "Please, John, Say It Ain't So" article on the
website, I invited Sen. Whitmire or anyone else supporting his actions
in leaving New Mexico to offer a differing position, and stated that
I would post that rebuttal/explanation/opinion at this place. John
Odam, a former county chair of this party and a great Democrat, sent
me an e-mail expressing his support for Sen. Whitmire's decision to
return to Texas. As promised, I post it here:
