MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR:
I Am Honored To Chair the Harris County Democrats

I am honored to have been elected to chair the Democratic Party of Harris County and humbled by the numerous pledges of support and assistance I have received from so many of you. So, it may seem a bit strange, but I want to direct my first missive as county chair to members of the opposing party. So . . .

Message to Republicans: We're here! Democrats are a vital, vibrant, vigorous force in this community, and we're getting stronger, more organized, more energized, more committed, and more focused than you've seen us in years And we're dedicated to challenging that enthusiasm into electoral victories. So take note, Republicans, Democrats are alive and well in Harris County.

Message to Republicans: People Matter! You Republicans control the Texas Legislature and the statehouse and the judiciary. So what are you going to do for PEOPLE? People need jobs (with living wages), and health care (especially for children and the elderly), and excellent public education, and affordable insurance, and a safe and clean environment, and tolerance and civil rights, and choice in the most personal and private matters of their lives. Don't sacrifice those real needs just so you can make payoffs to your largest campaign contributors, such as by making huge (and unaffordable) distributions of cash to wealthy corporate stockholders tax-free. Your corporate greed has already cost too many people their futures and squandered our hard-earned budget surplus. You promised a prosperous, just, and compassionate society. Now deliver on that promise. If you can. Or really care to.

But you won't.

Message to Republicans: Democrats are different from Republicans in what and who we believe in and stand for and fight for. I invite you to read our respective party platforms and compare.

Message to Republicans: The Democratic Party of Harris County is functioning and energized and here for keeps. And we have the finest, most devoted, most creative, most hard-working supporters anywhere. I know. I've met many of them and worked with them and listened to them. And I am so encouraged by the enthusiasm I have encountered already and so looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity of helping to channel that energy and common purpose into electoral voice and victories in the coming months and years.

Thank you, Democrats, for the confidence you have shown in me by electing me your chair and for your help and your friendship in the coming days and ventures.
