Please join the Harris County Democratic Party on Tuesday, August 10th, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the HCDP Headquarters, 1445 North Loop West, Suite 110, Houston TX 77008, for a lively discussion concerning the debate over term limits of City of Houston elected officials. Our featured speakers will be Ambassador Arthur Schechter, who was appointed by former Mayor Bill White to oversee the 21-member commission tasked with studying Houston’s term limits and making recommendations, and recent Houston City Council candidate, Karen Derr, who maintains active involvement in City Hall issues. This summer, the Houston City Council will decide whether to include a charter amendment on this November’s ballot, adopting the Schechter Commission’s recommendations. This controversial issue basically boils down to a couple questions: how long do we think our elected officials should be able to stay in office and what do we think they could accomplish with a longer stay in office? If you are curious to know more, or want to express you opinion on the issue, come out on Tuesday, August 10th from Noon – 1:00 p.m. at the HCDP Headquarters and join in the discussion. Learn more about why so many of our elected officials are starting to join the heated debate. Bring your sack lunch, we’ll provide the drinks and discussion about how changes to Houston’s term limits law may affect our city!
