Catch Up with the Coordinated Campaign 8/8 – 8/15

With only 78 days left until Election Day, the Harris County Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign is busier than ever this week. The Coordinated Campaign continues to focus on our direct voter contact and community outreach programs. The HCDP Coordinated Campaign staff participated in a number of community events throughout the city, in addition to hosting the Grand Opening of our Pasadena Campaign Office.

Last week, we continued our efforts in training precinct chairs on our 50 for Victory Plan, as we hosted trainings in House Districts 131,134, 146 and 149. Special thanks to the Ellen Cohen Campaign and staff for allowing us use of their office to hold our training Thursday. If you are a precinct chair or wish to participate in this program by contacting prospective Democratic voters in your neighborhood, and have not attended one of these trainings, you can find one in your neighborhood by clicking here.

Last Saturday morning, we assisted in the Galena Park Back to School Drive, where we passed out school supplies and information on county family and education services. Over 150 people attended the event and once again our bookmarks were a huge hit! We are thankful to Mr. Raul Rodriguez and the LULAC chapter of Galena Park for allowing us to stop by.

Saturday afternoon the Harris County Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign in conjunction with Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia and Candidate for 144th District State Representative Rick Molina proudly opened the doors of our Pasadena Campaign Office. Over 150 Democrats turned out to celebrate the opening with food and music, with their Democratic candidates and neighbors. Congressmember Gene Green, along with Commissioner Garcia and State Representative Candidate Molina all spoke to the importance of the November election and its potential impact on public education and the imminent redistricting battle.

Sunday, the Campaign hosted a booth at the India Independence Day Festival. We registered voters, connected with the Asian American community and signed up volunteers to assist the Campaign this election season. The festival drew over 10,000 people from the local Indian American community for a day filled with music, dancing and cultural heritage events. Congressmembers Al Green and Sheila Jackson Lee were also in attendance. We were delighted to be a part of this great event and we thank all of the candidates and elected officials who were able to join us.

On a sad note, this week we say goodbye to one of staffers. Communications Director Nishi Kothari is headed to Austin to begin classes at the University of Texas School of Law next week. She has been a true asset to our campaign and her talent and commitment will be missed. Best of luck Nishi!
